Strategic Advisory Committee

The purpose of the Strategic Advisory Committee is primarily to determine the direction or strategy of the Association to recommend to the Board of Directors. The following are important to this purpose:

  • To hold discussion sessions on important issues brought forward by Association members, the Chapter/State Committee, task forces, advisors or staff.
  • To evaluate industry trends through conference sessions, studies and other means.
  • To recommend strategy, and promotion and technical objectives for the Association’s programs.
  • To participate in establishing annual goals/priorities, and in accomplishing strategic initiatives.
  • To appoint task forces and chairs thereof to accomplish specific goals within ACPA’s resources.
  • To determine research priorities and communicate those priorities to the Innovative Pavement Research Foundation, National Concrete Pavement Technology Center and agency partners.
  • To participate in establishing the Association’s posture and objectives to address federal policy and legislative matters.
  • To oversee the national "Excellence in Concrete Paving Awards."

Composition and Eligibility Requirements

The Second Vice Chair of the Board of Directors serves as Chair of the Strategic Advisory Committee.

An executive or employee appointed by a member to represent its interests in the Association shall be eligible to participate on the Strategic Advisory Committee. All Advisors are appointed by the Board of Directors and are rotated on a 3-year term, unless indicated otherwise by the Board of Directors.

ACPA Task Forces

One of the responsibilities of the Strategic Advisory Committee is the recommendation and/or approval of the formation of ACPA Task Forces. The Strategic Advisory Committee also provides oversight, advice, and recommendations to the task forces. ACPA Task Forces are typically formed to address current issues or needs, and then are retired (sunsetted) after ACPA leadership has determined the task force's mission is complete. Current Task Forces include:

ACPA’s first Strategic Advisory Committee (formerly the ACPA Strategic Board of Advisors) meeting in June 2010 represented a new approach to effective governance. The original vision for the committee was to identify opportunities and challenges, as well as for initiating and overseeing results-oriented task forces.
